Background:

Castle Caereinion Primary is situated in a small village about three miles west of the market town of Welshpool in mid-Wales. The provision of education in the village dates back more than 200 years and the school itelf is 110 years old. It is housed in a 'typical' two-classroom village school building, with additions built in the 1950s and 1990s. A mobile classroom was recently added to cope with an ever-increasing school roll. As well as sporting activities, pupils can receive tuition in strings and brass. 'Although the building is of the last century, the school's outlook is 'most definitely of the high tech era.' It has, over the years, built up a 'formidable' reputation with regards to technology and information and communications technology. It 'leads the way' in computer control technology, 'regularly' exhibiting work at national events. The school's staff have 'expertise' in curriculum planning, and their advice is 'published nationally' to assist teachers with curriculum planning. The school's success 'owes much to the marvellous support given by parents and the wider community'. 'Generous' donations by the community allowed the school to build a link between the building and the mobile classroom. A number of charities are supported 'from time to time' and have included national and local causes. While the school is 'small enough to be a friendly school with a personal touch', it 'takes care that each child receives a well-balanced education which also includes social skills and spiritual and cultural development'.
