Background:

Situated in superb rural setting overlooking the town of Llanfair Caerinion; origins in 1894; serves predominantly rural area in which Welsh is the language of substantial part of population. Curriculum and activities reflect community's bilingual nature and two of its four entry forms are designated as Welsh-medium classes. Recent £1.5 million building project includes Welsh-medium science block, home economics and music suite, new rooms for Welsh-medium history, geography and mathematics and for learning support. The school boasts three computer suites, plus a network of computers throughout the school. Pupils play hockey, football, netball and athletics and have full use of an extensive leisure centre adjoining the school. The leisure centre opened in September 1993 with facilities including a multi-purpose sports hall, fitness suite and two squash courts. In addition to sport, extra-curricular activities include dramatic productions, debating, public-speaking and concerts. The school is involved in out-of-school activities with Youth, Urdd and Young Farmers' Clubs and has excellent record of winning major prizes in the Urdd Eisteddfod.
