Background:
John Beddoes founded in 1565 as a free grammar school and serves a rural community close to the English/Welsh border. The oldest part of the school was originally employed as a county goal and there are a number of additional buildings providing both specialist and general teaching areas. A leisure centre opened in 1989, followed by specialist areas for the creative arts in 1993. The sixth form centre houses teaching, study and leisure facilities. Pupils are offered a broad selection of sporting, creative and social activities, in addition to the opportunity to participate in residential and day visits to local, national and international places of interest. The school aims to foster the potential (academic, cultural and sporting) of all the students in a caring environment, within the framework of a supportive pastoral system.
